About

Michael Finke is an award-winning New York based musical theatre writer. He’s written the book, music, and lyrics for full-length musicals such as "Reporting Live", "Caroline and George", "Surrounded By the Water", “Powerline Road”, and the upcoming “161st Street” (with co-composer Andrew Sotomayor). 

 

His musical short “Dead Flowers” is available for licensing with MTI (being performed across North America and Europe in both English and Spanish) and his debut album “Get What You Want” was recently released by Center Stage Records, available on all major streaming platforms. As part of New Musical Inc.’s Veteran’s Project, Michael wrote the music and lyrics for the musical shorts “A Single Vibration” and “Christmas in Afghanistan”. He also contributed original songs for “Christmas in Columbus” at Short North Stage. He recently wrote the one-act musical comedy “Movies Are Not Dead” to be licensed in Spring 2026.

 

His work has been developed by Merrimack Repertory Company, Musical Theatre Heritage, OutVisible Theatre, New Musicals Inc., New York University, Pace University, Long Island University, Columbia College of Chicago, Musical Theatre Factory, and Theatre Now. He’s had songs and concerts of his work performed at the Lincoln Center Library, Signature Theatre, the York Theatre Company, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, SoHo Playhouse, 54 Below, Joe’s Pub, the Christmas Day telecast on ABC, and many more.

 

He is a winner of the New Voices Project with Walt Disney Imagineering and New Musicals Inc. and is also a proud member of ASCAP and the Dramatists Guild. He's an alum of the BMI Musical Theatre Worskhop and current member of the Theatre Now Musical Writer's Lab. He is originally from Boca Raton, Florida and currently lives in the East Village with his husband and dog, Finley.
